Screening after: The Deliveryboy

ERIC SAYS For some of you—I’m looking at those of you who lurk in the cult section of Beyond Video and/or drop full paychecks on blu-ray and 4K UHD pre-orders—all I need to say about Anything That Moves can be summed up in a few short words: it’s a new film produced by Vinegar Syndrome, and it’s great. But to break it down for the rest of you: imagine an unapologetically lascivious bi-sexual erotic thriller with bucketloads of graphic comedy and gore, drawing inspiration from the giallo genre and the auteurs of 1970s Times Square and ‘80s after-hours cable—the likes of Abel Ferrara, Paul Morrissey, Roberta Findlay, Larry Cohen, and our own John Waters, to name a few.

But Anything That Moves does more than just honor its influences: it’s also very much of our moment, a bold embodiment of what a midnight movie could look like in the gig-economy era. If you thought they don’t make ‘em like this any more, here’s an eminently enjoyable and thrillingly transgressive genre-bashing flick that will make you (and the MPAA ratings board) think again.
