ERIC SAYS With homegrown films like OBEX garnering widespread acclaim, Baltimore’s DIY genre-film scene feels poised for discovery—and Little Doors is the next film up to bat. Part autism-coded love story, part deadpan comedy, part body horror, and part apocalyptic sci-fi, Little Doors is a complex cocktail that goes down smooth. And, quite probably: it’s the first movie in the history of the world in which a main character discovers a little wooden door in their body.
One of a few features in this year’s lineup stacked with an all-star team’s worth of New/Next alums, Little Doors is directed by Anthony Oberbeck (of Dad & Step Dad and Reveries: The Mind Prison), who also stars alongside Megan Koester (Dance Freak); Eleanore Pienta, Frank Mosley, and man-about-town Connor Kizer are featured in supporting roles, and Tyler Davis (Your Final Meditation, Strawberry Mansion) serves as DP. They all bring their A-game to this wildly imaginative and feverishly entertaining film, an elite entry in the rich recent history of Bmore-made narratives.
