ERIC SAYS Keep an eye on film distributor 1-2 Special. Last year they debuted with the Colombian dark comedy A Poet, absolutely one of the best films of 2025. This year’s New/Next lineup boasts not one but two titles from this adventurous new distributor: Marine Atlan’s devastating La Gradiva and this, one of the most beautiful features I’ve seen in quite some time.

This is a film you want to go into without knowing too much—partially because it is much more about mood and feeling than it is about plot. But know that it’s a film concerned with family and loss that won the top prize in the Un Certain Regard section of the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, and very much deserved it. If I were to compare it to other films, they would be Charlotte Wells’ Aftersun, Sophy Romvari’s Blue Heron, and the films of Joanna Hogg. In other words: masterpieces.
